1 Corinthians 1:26-31
26 Now remember what you were, my friends, when God called you. From the human point of view few of you were wise or powerful or of high social standing. 27 God purposely chose what the world considers nonsense in order to shame the wise, and he chose what the world considers weak in order to shame the powerful. 28 He chose what the world looks down on and despises and thinks is nothing, in order to destroy what the world thinks is important. 29 This means that no one can boast in God's presence. 30 But God has brought you into union with Christ Jesus, and God has made Christ to be our wisdom. By him we are put right with God; we become God's holy people and are set free. 31 So then, as the scripture says, “Whoever wants to boast must boast of what the Lord has done.”
One of the most beautiful things about Christianity is that it levels the playing field. It is not the strong or the well-cultured that God uses the most powerfully. It is the most humble and faithful. The characteristics that God looks for in us are accessible to everyone.
Sometimes, I get imposter syndrome in my work. I look at what I am asked to do and feel like I am not good enough. I worry that there are others who would do a better job and who would achieve more than me. We all have moments when we feel inadequate or out of our depth. Perhaps you worry that you won’t have the experience or expertise to do what we have been asked to. Or we feel that you are lacking the gifts and will let others down, or worse that your ineptitude will be revealed and you will feel shame. However, Paul says that Christ is our wisdom. He provides that insights that we need as we are working and moving things forwards.
Our value is no longer attached to what we do but who we know. Keep your eyes fixed on Christ and allow him to be your guide. You will not go wrong.
Let’s pray: Lord, as we step into this day. We give you our hearts, we give you our hands and we give you our minds. Use them for your glory, we pray. Amen.
